2011 Icon Award Winner and Nominees

2011 Icon Award Winner – Fairfax County, Virginia, USA

Fairfax County, Virginia, is home to more than a million people in a 400-square-mile area, as well as several U.S. government and intelligence agencies. The county's multiple public safety agencies needed an efficient way to share data between disparate computer-aided dispatch systems with support for 24/7 emergency functions to replace its manual processes.

With its new Data Exchange Hub based on Intergraph's computer-aided dispatch solution, Fairfax can easily view the real-time status of first responder units and request resources in mutual aid responses that currently occur more than 40 times a day.

2011 Icon Award Nominee – Aurora Energy, Tasmania

Serving the utility and communications needs of 280,000 people on the island of Tasmania, Aurora Energy required a GIS and communications tool to aid in the efficient design of fiber networks.

Building on their 20-year partnership, Intergraph and Aurora Energy augmented the utility's existing technology and infrastructure with Intergraph's design and asset management system – allowing Aurora to efficiently manage its geographically dispersed communications networks, all in one integrated system.

2011 Icon Award Nominee – British Transport Police

As one of the many police forces working to secure the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, England, the British Transport Police sought a unified enterprise platform to manage and serve large volumes of geospatial data, including mapping, aerial imagery, CCTV, and video data.

The Police turned to ERDAS APOLLO and TITAN technology to store and distribute imagery in a timely manner. Having all imagery and maps in one easily accessible location will increase the efficiency of event security planning, such as when people travel to attend the various 2012 Olympic events.

2011 Icon Award Nominee – City of Zürich, Switzerland

With its beautiful lakeside location, unspoiled environment, and extensive leisure and cultural activities, Zürich is the largest city in Switzerland, with about one million inhabitants.

The City of Zürich has relied on Intergraph software for more than 20 years for all facets of geospatial information management to aid in its government, transportation, public safety, and education efforts – from rail and airports to wastewater and recycling to police, fire, and emergency management systems.
