HUNTSVILLE, Ala., March 7, 2005 – At the Geospatial Information & Technology’s (GITA) annual conference being held this week in Denver, Colo., Keith McDaniel was named the recipient of GITA’s 2005 Distinguished Service Award. The presentation of the award was made today during the opening session of the conference at the Colorado Convention Center. McDaniel, a resident of Centennial, Colo., was selected for his extraordinary personal contributions to the association’s success and its mission to provide excellence in education and information exchange on the use and benefits of geospatial information and technology in telecommunications, infrastructure and utility applications worldwide.
“Keith has given many years of dedicated service to GITA, giving unselfishly of his time and energy to advance our organization,” said Bob Samborski, Executive Director, GITA. “His purposeful commitment has made a definitive and positive impact on the association, and we are pleased to honor him with this prestigious award.”
Among McDaniel’s many achievements during his career include the development of Intergraph Corporation’s AM/FM/GIS technology as well as the first packaged industry approach for gas, electric, and telephone utilities. McDaniel was a founder of AM/FM International (now GITA) as a nonprofit educational association. In addition to serving on the GITA Board of Directors, McDaniel’s contributions to the association include serving as chair of GITA’s Executive Symposium and the Education and Strategic Planning committees. He was also extremely involved with several of the association’s international projects. In 1994, McDaniel was inducted as a member of the associations’ Honorary Past Presidents’ Advisory Council.
From the geospatial information technology industry’s infancy, McDaniel has remained a committed advocate of advancing integrated GIT applications. “As a passionate supporter in the formation of GITA, I dedicated myself to the mission of being a spokesman for keeping the vision of integrated applications alive and focused,” McDaniel said. “This led me on a path of being a contributing member or chairman of most of the association’s committees, conferences and many international activities. Strategic planning and education to an ever-expanding and technically evolving membership was paramount to this mission. Today, as we see the vision materialize, I am grateful for Intergraph’s support and having had the opportunity to share our industries progress with so many dedicated colleagues.”
