Intergraph Announces Version 9.3 of G/Technology

Major new release enhances integration, maintenance, customization and analysis capabilities to let professionals work smarter and faster

SAN FRANCISCO, April 26, 2005 - GeoSpatial World 2005 - Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions today introduced version 9.3 of G/Technology(TM) to professionals gathered in San Francisco for Intergraph’s fifth annual Geospatial World international training and management conference. G/Technology delivers an integrated geofacilities management system that is the foundation for a comprehensive information technology (IT) environment called geospatial resource management (GRM), which facilitates integration among key engineering, operational and customer-related corporate systems for utilities and communication companies. With version 9.3, G/Technology adds new capabilities for data integration, software customization and network maintenance and analysis to improve software usability and increase productivity for daily operational and maintenance workflows.

“G/Technology continues to improve with each new version, and this major release is no exception,” said Kecia Pierce, G/Technology Product Manager, Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions. “We have incorporated significant advancements as a result of feedback from customers worldwide.”

Key new features of G/Technology include:

-- Extended CAD integration improves productivity and usability - Desktop enhancements provide support for ad hoc vector attachment of MicroStation and AutoCAD. This enables G/Technology to automatically display CAD files in their native symbology without pre-configuring metadata. New capabilities also support re-registration of the CAD and raster files, control of CAD layer displays and allow users to save map and plot views to PDF files.

-- Enhanced CAD-like tools speed workflows and boost productivity - Numerous interface and programming enhancements simplify the use of CAD-like tools for dimensioning, construction aids, placement and editing. Version 9.3 also introduces two new construction aids - intersection and fillet arc - as well as temporary geometries, such as auxiliary grids and construction lines that aid in the creation of permanent feature geometry.

-- Incremental downloads streamline field updates - Users need only update their mobile units with the master data changes that have been posted since the creation of a particular mobile subset. The process creates the smallest possible data set for transfer to a mobile unit, eliminating the need to download the full mobile subset - saving time and effort. Web-based transfers are now a viable means to keep mobile users, such as contractors and remote- or home-based employees, up to date with the latest network information.

-- Distance-based tracing extends analytical capabilities - An important task of network maintenance and restoration personnel in the communications industry is identifying cable faults and their location in the network. Traces may now be terminated based on distance and resistance criteria, facilitating testing of copper pairs and fiber strands. The reflection data returned during optical network troubleshooting can now be translated into distance on the geographic network. These underlying capabilities apply beyond fiber or copper cable models to any situation requiring a network trace limited by distance criteria.

-- Additional Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) augment customization capabilities - API extensions provide further opportunities to customize G/Technology in the areas of placement, edit, plotting, construction aids and loop makeup; and augmenting design, maintenance, analysis and map or report production workflows. Extended APIs allow developers to supplement G/Technology’s commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications with company-specific software routines.

The joint release of G/Technology Version 9.3 and GeoMedia(R) Version 6.0 offers new levels of interoperability between the two products. GeoMedia’s enhanced data server for G/Technology will augment workflows requiring GeoMedia-based analysis of the geofacilities network data housed in G/Technology. The new data server has the ability to analyze more G/Technology attribute data than before and now uses the enterprise legends and symbology defined in G/Technology.
