Intergraph Introduces SmartPlant Layout for Preliminary 3D Plant Layout

New Technology Helps Save Time, Improve Design Quality and Ensure Consistency

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., January 23, 2006 – Intergraph Corporation today introduced SmartPlant Layout for preliminary 3D plant layout, including proposal development, early design estimates and plant layout optimization. Based on Intergraph’s next-generation 3D design solution, SmartPlant® 3D, SmartPlant Layout is another extension of the SmartPlant Enterprise suite through the addition of tools for automatic pipe routing, layout case management and interface cost estimation.

SmartPlant Layout enables preliminary designs to be reused by carrying forward initial layouts into detailed design without additional remodeling – saving time and improving design quality. Because SmartPlant Layout is built on SmartPlant 3D architecture, software administrative burden is significantly reduced in comparison to using standalone early design software. SmartPlant Layout significantly streamlines the preliminary layout design process, and including selected SmartPlant 3D equipment, piping, structure and space management commands.

“SmartPlant Layout will dramatically improve plant engineering, design and proposal development,” said Gerhard Sallinger, president, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine. “Eliminating the need for remodeling increases project productivity and quality throughout the design and engineering process.”

During Beta evaluations of SmartPlant Layout by a number of industry leading EPC customers over the past year, SmartPlant Layout used with SmartPlant 3D for detailed design eliminated up to 90 percent of the remodeling normally required when transitioning from preliminary design applications and formats to detailed design. By using SmartPlant Layout in conjunction with SmartPlant 3D, the preliminary design simply evolves into a more comprehensive, detailed design. This saves engineering time and improves overall plant layout quality.

SmartPlant Layout supports the industry’s leading commercial databases, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server, enabling it to be deployed in full compliance with clients’ corporate database standards. Since SmartPlant Layout is based on SmartPlant 3D technology, customers who use both products today realize significant savings through elimination of administration overheads, reference data management and training burdens.

SmartPlant Layout is an integral part of Intergraph’s suite of SmartPlant Enterprise products, which provide advanced design and engineering functionality, usability and work process improvement for real business benefit to cut schedules, boost productivity and increase engineering quality. The benefits of the SmartPlant Enterprise have enhanced plant design and engineering with breakthroughs in operational excellence and safety, profitability and protection of knowledge assets.
