Intergraph Announces New Version of G/Technology

New Release Provides Enhancements for Mobile and Web Users

Huntsville, Ala., Feb. 28, 2006 – Intergraph Corporation today announced a new version of G/Technology that provides significant usability enhancements for mobile users and flexible licensing for Web users. The new version further demonstrates Intergraph's commitment to addressing market requirements for mobilizing field workers and extending data access via the Web.

Jay Stinson vice president and general manager, Intergraph Utilities & Communications, said, “This new version of G/Technology brings mobile and Web-focused enhancements that enhance decision support and streamline workflows for the mobile workforce – enabling our customers to respond more quickly and efficiently to customer demands.”

G/Technology MobileViewer supports field-based, round-trip workflows so that users in the field can create intelligent redline sketches, generate cost estimates related to the designs and send all this information back into the asset database via automation using XML. MobileViewer also supports pre-configured applications for the field, such as vegetation management and field inspection, with requisite data traveling round-trip to the field and back with changes to the asset database.

Specific new features of G/Technology address data integration and manipulation, user interfaces, viewing options, tools for precisely controlling data sent to the field and license recycling to maximize concurrent Web usage.

  • Integration with external data types enhances decision support and further optimizes field design – Field designers can attach geo-referenced backdrop files, such as a new subdivision plat, to use with real-time sketching activities. In addition, they can open and view non-geo-referenced files (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, ortho images, Microsoft and Excel) – such as engineering specification drawings – enabling them to make more informed design decisions in the field. Users now have the ability to save map views as PDF files, making it easier to share designs with external contractors and inspectors.
  • Mobile sub-setting capability supports fine-tuning of data for delivery to field – Mobile users can extract, from the asset database, precisely the relevant information needed for field work. This further streamlines mobile workflows by providing only the data that is specifically needed by specific user types, such as services personnel or field inspection crews.
  • Job extraction capability takes work orders to the field and back to the office – Mobile users can review and markup job orders in the field, increasing productivity. This is important as work that is completely handled in the field does not require additional back-office handling – eliminating redundancy and improving data accuracy.
  • NetViewer “license warehouse” extends Web functionality to those who need it – Once an active Web user logs out of a session, the user license is automatically returned to a license pool for other users – maximizing the number of possible concurrent users. The capability for viewing and analysis achieved via enterprisewide data access contributes to management and customer care decision support.
  • User interface extends viewer manipulation and control – Users have new ways to position maps exactly as needed. For example, multiple views can be simultaneously displayed on the screen, which allows the design engineer to view the details of a substation while sketching a new line extension. Users can also grab the map and pan in all directions to further position the map exactly as needed.
  • Intergraph’s G/Technology delivers an integrated geofacilities management system that provides powerful tools to support the facilities maintenance and management needs of utilities and communications companies. As an open, non-proprietary technology, G/Technology facilitates integration with key engineering, operational and customer-related corporate systems, enabling companies to respond more quickly and efficiently to market opportunities and customer demands.
