Vietsovpetro Expands its Use of Intergraph®

SmartPlant® Enterprise and Upgrades to SmartPlant 3D

Complete engineering solutions portfolio enhances offshore project execution, speeds design and reduces costs

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., May 6, 2009 – Vietsovpetro (VSP), a Vietnamese-Russian joint venture focused on the production and exploration of oil and gas as well as the design, assembly and repair of offshore facilities, has expanded its use of Intergraph® SmartPlant® Enterprise, including an upgrade to SmartPlant 3D.

VSP, Southeast Asia’s third largest oil producer and exporter which is responsible for 80 percent of Vietnam’s oil and gas output, will use SmartPlant Enterprise engineering solutions to increase productivity and accelerate schedules for the design, construction and capital Project Life cycle Management (cPLM) of its customers’ projects.

SmartPlant Enterprise is an integrated solutions suite that provides full design, construction, materials and engineering data management capabilities needed for the creation and safe operation and maintenance of large-scale process, power, marine and offshore projects. The software’s life cycle data management also enables a smoother handover for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies to owner operators and for owner operators to more easily maintain, refurbish or modify their plants.

With SmartPlant Enterprise, VSP can synchronize its design and documentation activities and ensure the integrity of the data and designs. The software will also enable the firm to quickly visualize, question and analyze situations to avoid costly mistakes and speed project execution. In addition, VSP will be able to better manage the large number of designs and modifications it performs on new and existing offshore platforms.

An existing Intergraph PDS customer, VSP’s upgrade to SmartPlant 3D will enable it to easily manage data in both the 3D model as well as output drawings for tasks such as design and installation of new pipelines and equipment items, extraction of general arrangement drawings, piping isometric drawings, equipment layouts, pipe support drawings and various types of reports.

SmartPlant 3D can deliver up to 35 percent productivity savings in key plant design disciplines compared to conventional software – and even more when it is integrated using SmartPlant Enterprise solutions suite as VSP will be doing. In addition, SmartPlant 3D can cut the time taken to check P&ID consistency and accuracy between the 2D schematic model and 3D digital plant model by more than 90 percent.

“We have realized productivity benefits in using SmartPlant 3D as well as the other SmartPlant Enterprise solutions,” said Dang Dinh Nguyen, manager of the process, piping and offshore design department for the Science Research and Design Institute at VSP. “Constant support from Credent Technologies, Vietnam and Intergraph was very helpful in guiding us along our first SmartPlant 3D project, completed just two months after installation.”

Gerhard Sallinger, Intergraph Process, Power and Marine president, said, “VSP’s upgrade to SmartPlant 3D and expanded use of SmartPlant Enterprise solutions demonstrates the savings and productivity gains these solutions deliver.  We also are pleased to see yet another leader in the oil and gas industry has chosen Intergraph to gain a competitive edge.”

The ARC Advisory Group, a leading industry analyst firm, ranked Intergraph the No. 1 overall engineering design 3D software and process engineering tools (PET) provider worldwide and in Asia according to its PET Worldwide Outlook Market Analysis and Forecast through 2013.

About Vietsovpetro
During its 28 years of experience, Vietsovpetro has accomplished a number of noteworthy achievements. The company has built a synchronized and advanced technical system onshore and offshore to supply oil and gas production.

VSP was the first to discover and efficiently exploit Vietnam’s unique basement oil reservoirs, such as White Tiger, Dragon, Big Bear and Eagle. The company has developed technical solutions for optimal exploitation of subsoil resources. These techniques have attracted the attention of foreign investors to petroleum exploration and production on Vietnam’s southern continental shelf, and the attention of worldwide scientists as well.

The joint venture has become the main focus of Vietnam’s petroleum industry and economy. VSP has produced nearly 161 million tons of crude oil from its White Tiger, Dragon and Big Bear oilfields, with total crude oil turnover at approximately US$33 billion. www.vietsov.com.vn
