HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Aug. 18, 2010 --Intergraph® continued its commitment to the Huntsville community today with a pledge to donate $200,000 for the Statue of Courage at the Madison County Veteran’s Memorial to honor local veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
“Intergraph is committed to honoring the brave men and women of our armed forces who have served willingly and valiantly to protect the incredible freedoms and privileges we in America enjoy,” said Intergraph Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Halsey Wise. “As Americans, our personal liberties would not be possible without the courage and sacrifices of those military personnel and their families who have answered our country’s call on every occasion in our history. Intergraph is proud to support the Madison County Veteran’s Memorial and honor the brave men and women of our armed forces.”
“The Madison County Veteran’s Memorial serves to inspire visitors and instill a sense of pride and respect for all veterans who have served in the United States military,” said Bill Stender, chairman of the Madison County Veterans Memorial Foundation. “Intergraph’s support of the Madison County Veteran’s Memorial underscores the company’s steadfast commitment to the community and to honoring those who have served the United States through military service.”
The Madison County Veteran’s Memorial will be located at Veterans Park on Holmes Avenue, between Washington and Jefferson streets in downtown Huntsville. Renderings of the completed memorial depict a semi-circle of three structures to represent courage, sacrifice and duty. Additionally, the names of more than 360 individuals from Madison County who were killed in the line of duty since World War I will be engraved on the memorial.
The Statue of Courage, Intergraph’s contribution to the Madison County Veteran’s Memorial, is the creation of artist and sculptor Danial Wesley Burch. A resident of Huntsville for many years, Burch specializes in painting, drawing and bronze sculpture. Burch is known for his perceptive eye and his ability to capture the character of subjects in several mediums and has also provided sculptures for the Huntsville/Madison County Veterans Park and the Huntsville’s Fallen Officer’s Memorial.
In addition to the Madison County Veteran’s Memorial, Intergraph supports numerous local charities and organizations throughout the community. One of the company’s largest philanthropic endeavors is the fight against cancer through numerous initiatives including the Intergraph Garden of Hope at the Huntsville Botanical Garden, its founding role in the Huntsville Classic fundraiser to benefit the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The company also contributed to the Huntsville Police Citizens Foundation’s Fallen Officers' Memorial in honor of local officers who have given their lives in the service to the Huntsville community.
Additionally, Intergraph sponsors Military Night for several area sports teams including the Huntsville Havoc, Alabama Vipers, and the University of Alabama-Huntsville hockey team. Intergraph also serves as the presenting sponsor of the Meg Ingram Memorial Scholarship Fund golf tournament and proudly participates in the Huntsville and Madison Relay for Life events and the Ribbon Run. Toys for Tots and the American Red Cross are also key endeavors for Intergraph’s philanthropic support.
