HUNTSVILLE, Ala., July 14, 2015 – Korean engineering, procurement and construction company (EPC), PIELDS Engineering Co., Ltd (PIELDS Engineering), has selected Intergraph Smart™ 3D to design a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for Brazilian energy company Petrobras.
PIELDS Engineering executed all engineering design as well as the production of all deliverables required for the fabrication, installation and construction of the FPSO’s gas compression modules. PIELDS Engineering had already used Smart 3D to perform engineering work for a different contractor involved in the Petrobras project, and the quality of work was so high that another contractor engaged PIELDS Engineering to perform further work.
“As the contract required us to not only complete the 3D design work, but also extract all the drawings, isometrics and reports from the 3D model and hand over the up-to-date database to Petrobras at the end of the project, we required a 3D design solution with advanced, automated capabilities,” said Kim Won Jin, an executive in PIELDS Engineering’s Management Support Team.
“Smart 3D was the clear market leader. While other 3D solutions focus on simply achieving design, Smart 3D enables optimized design, which means it increases accuracy and efficiency, and shortens project schedules,” he added.
Smart 3D is a next-generation 3D design solution specifically tailored for the offshore oil and gas industry. It employs a breakthrough engineering approach that leverages real-time concurrent design, rules, relationships and automation. It is the most advanced and productive 3D design solution that effectively enables optimized design, increasing safety, quality and productivity, while shortening project schedules.
Gerhard Sallinger, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine president, said, “We are proud that Smart 3D is helping PIELDS Engineering to perform outstanding work for Petrobras, which is such an important player in the global oil and gas industry.”
