A
187,000-plus ton floating production storage and offloading (FPSO)
vessel was
needed to economically produce a vast oil refinery construction project 350
kilometers (218 miles)
offshore, operated by Husky Energy.
North Atlantic with the hazards of severe cold, storms, and icebergs is even more remarkable.
Aker Maritime Kiewit Contractors (AMKC) chose Intergraph solutions to complete the topsides used during refinery production. The 18-module, 11,000-ton topsides process all produced fluids from the reservoirs and produce crude oil for cargo and natural gas for onboard fuel and reinjection back into the reservoir.
The topsides mainly consist of oil separation equipment, water and gas injection pumps, a flare tower, and three 28-megawatt generators, able to produce enough electricity to power a city of about 110,000 people.
Intergraph PDS®, SmartPlant® Instrumentation and CABSYS software routed and allocated space for the many components that make up the topsides. Clash checks helped identify and solve problems before offshore platform construction began, saving costly rework. For deliverables, the model allowed efficient drawing production throughout the oil refinery construction.
