With the
support of Intergraph, the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM)
implemented a structured network system security program to provide secure
information access to 16,000 network users at Redstone
Arsenal, Alabama, and sites in
Pennsylvania, Texas, and Illinois. AMCOM manages and maintains data for
a variety of advanced weapon systems – from Blackhawk helicopters to the Patriot
missile system. Working with Intergraph on-site, AMCOM developed a Local
Computer Incident Response Team (LCIRT) to provide technical guidance and
resources to AMCOM customers on automated information system matters related to
research, development, and acquisition mission programs.
Approaching security as a life cycle of process improvements, Intergraph and AMCOM developed a continuous process of risk reviews/assessments, policy development and application, technology and process implementation, security training, incident response, and accreditation. They have enhanced network security through the implementation of multiplatform hardware, operations systems, application software, network devices, and management tools, as well as day-to-day planning and program administration. LCIRT tracks the content of more than 87 public Web sites, monitors intrusion detection systems, and supports the investigation and reporting of possible incidents.
