Interoute consolidates network data using GIS solutions from Intergraph®

Central database provides significant time and cost
savings for forward-thinking pan-European
telecommunications operatory

Interoute, owner of Europe’s most advanced next-generation voice and data network, is recognized as an innovative telecommunications operator. It handles more than $1 billion (EU) of e-commerce daily through its data centers, making the company a key part of Europe’s digital network. Interoute serves more than 9,000 corporate, wholesale, and government customers across the world and is linked to major telecom hubs in North America, the Middle East, and North Africa.

To ensure its continued growth, Interoute needed to consolidate documentation of its physical telecommunications network. The company was using hundreds of different documents in various formats to locate and identify network sites, cable and fiber connectivity, and mapping customers on individual fibers. This cost Interoute valuable time in gathering accurate information from various locations on the shared network drive. A central database serving as one source for physical network information would provide a significant time and cost savings.

Interoute implemented a geographic information system (GIS) using geospatially powered solutions from Intergraph®. In addition to providing time and cost savings, Interoute’s GIS improves the company’s overall performance by allowing it to more effectively manage its physical inventory. The solution provides Interoute with easy access to physical network information using queries by attributes such as object name, location, coordinates, etc. This capability is a vital tool in helping the company make faster and more informed decisions to improve service for its customers. Interoute can leverage the consolidated database to support new customer connections, while also improving the efficiency of network operations.
