Intergraph® 2010 Asia-Pacific Conferences Feature SmartPlant® and SmartMarine® Enterprise Technology

Rules-based and safety-driven technology for improved safety, productivity and quality

SYDNEY, Australia, Aug. 12, 2010 – Intergraph® has launched its series of Intergraph 2010 conferences in the Asia-Pacific region that will take place in six different countries with over 2,000 customers attending. The Intergraph 2010 Asia-Pacific conferences will feature Smart 3D (SmartPlant® and SmartMarine® 3D) design software interfaced with GexCon’s FLACS® explosion analysis software that will enable users to analyse the design of their onshore or offshore facilities more quickly and with greater accuracy as they analyse impacts of explosions.

Intergraph Smart 3D rules-based technology can help to increase safety in the engineering enterprise by enabling users to design, build, and operate safer, more reliable plants, offshore structures, and ships. The SmartPlant and SmartMarine enterprise suites of safety solutions bolster these prime areas of concern: process safety, personnel safety, facility safety, and environmental safety. The technology incorporates safety rules and considerations into the design system with continuous interference checking that acts as a “watch dog” by flagging hazards and proposing solutions. Users can take immediate action and validate the design as it evolves, helping to lower the risk of incidents. GexCon’s FLACS has been the leading tool for explosion consequence prediction on offshore oil and gas installations for more than a decade.

The interface between Smart 3D design software and FLACS provides a new safety tool to users to analyse their 3D models more quickly and reliably and enables them to predict explosion consequences early in the design process. Smart 3D models can be imported for analysis and validation within hours or days instead of the usual weeks or months, enabling users to iterate design options faster with higher model accuracy and analyse gas dispersion and explosion impacts with increased efficiency. This capability reduces cost and increases productivity with improved safety and design quality to ensure a safer working environment.

Thomas Doran, Executive Vice President, Process, Power and Marine, Asia Pacific, Intergraph, said, “Intergraph Smart 3D rules-based and safety-driven design solutions inherently promote safer plant design, construction, operations and maintenance. With Smart 3D conveniently interfaced with FLACS, this will further enhance the robust safety management capabilities of the SmartPlant and SmartMarine suites of solutions, allowing users to analyse their 3D models for explosions and risk assessment in an efficient and timely manner.”

GexCon, an independent consulting company in the field of gas dispersion, fire and explosion safety, developed FLACS with the full cooperation, support, direction and funding of 10 of the largest oil and gas companies in the world.

Smart 3D solutions are part of Intergraph’s Plant Enterprise suite of integrated solutions that provides full design, construction, materials and engineering data management capabilities needed for the creation, safe operation and maintenance, and capital Project Lifecycle Management (cPLM) of large-scale process, power, marine and offshore projects. The software’s lifecycle data management also enables a smoother handover for EPCs to owner operators and for owner operators to more easily maintain, refurbish or modify their plants.
