Horizon Energy Distribution Limited Selects Intergraph® G/Technology

Electric utility company seeks open solution to manage its geospatial infrastructure

SYDNEY, Australia, Sept. 14, 2010 – Horizon Energy Distribution Limited (Horizon Energy), a major electricity distribution company based in Whakatane, New Zealand, has selected Intergraph® G/Technology to meet its geospatial infrastructure management needs for increased efficiency and responsiveness.

To enhance its competitiveness in the marketplace, Horizon Energy decided to leverage industry best practices and reap the benefits of advancements in geographic information system (GIS) technology with engineering-based automation. Horizon Energy chose Intergraph’s G/Technology solution for its open architecture combined with data management strategies, the spatial initiatives of database management systems, and compliance with industry standards.

Intergraph G/Technology is a feature-rich application platform that integrates geofacilities management with operational support and service-delivery applications, enabling infrastructure management systems to cooperate seamlessly to manage all planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and emergency response functions. The hallmark of G/Technology is an unprecedented openness that makes facility information directly available to relevant corporate systems and users throughout the enterprise. Unlike traditional proprietary systems, G/Technology embraces Oracle Locator storage for geospatial data, providing open access and enabling users to link to critical workflow processes throughout the enterprise.

The G/Technology solution will be used across Horizon Energy by engineers for network design and maintenance, enabling them to capture and inspect field assets. The new Intergraph system will enable easy integration with other applications, providing a significant return on investment and delivering a lower total cost of ownership, with quicker and easier access to geospatial data and information.

“Changing GIS solutions for a utility is not something we considered without substantial justification,” said Ajay Anand, Chief Executive Officer of Horizon Energy. “Our decision to adopt Intergraph G/Technology was based on our need to move the company forward. As the leader in its field, Intergraph has a strong, localised and cost-effective solution for the New Zealand market, which will assist us greatly in achieving this objective. We believe the Intergraph solution will offer significant downstream benefits to Horizon Energy and look forward to this going live in 2011.”

Kevin Stanley, Intergraph Security, Government and Infrastructure Vice President in Asia Pacific, said, “Intergraph is the leading GIS vendor in the New Zealand electricity distribution sector and the partnership with Horizon Energy reinforces Intergraph’s position in the utilities market. Utility companies recognise that Intergraph has proven GIS technology solutions and Intergraph has already begun talks with three other utilities to replace their legacy geospatial infrastructure management systems. With over 40 years of experience serving the utilities industry, Intergraph has a deep understanding of the market’s requirements and we have designed our technology to meet the industry’s needs.”
