Intergraph’s next-generation, multi-disciplinary offshore design system, SmartMarine 3D extends the boundaries for true concurrent facility design. Building on its heritage and support for the offshore industry spanning 25 years, SmartMarine 3D innovates in a number of key areas aimed at improving the overall productivity of offshore design. The solution uses key technologies built around a central 3D database where outfitting and structural member and plate technologies are fully integrated SmartMarine 3D includes comprehensive worksharing capabilities, design automation tools, and customizable design rules, enabling the multi-disciplinary team to create a 3D offshore model. Automation extends beyond 3D modeling into drawing production, reducing the time needed to generate and update project deliverables such as orthographic drawings, piping isometrics, and material takeoff (MTO) reports.
SmartMarine 3D‚ Intergraph’s latest 3D offshore design solution, is designed to dramatically increase design, modeling, and deliverable production productivity across all key disciplines involved in the design of today’s complex offshore structures while increasing overall design quality and data integrity.
Using industry-standard database technologies from Microsoft and Oracle, SmartMarine 3D is a true, data-centric offshore modeling environment. This enables the multi-disciplinary design team to create an intelligent 3D offshore models from which all intelligent deliverables are produced. SmartMarine 3D also includes close integration with fabrication requirements (e.g., via SmartPlant Spoolgen) and plate and profile nesting applications.
SmartMarine 3D includes a series of integrated tasks addressing key offshore design activities, including:
Comprehensive, interactive, as well as server-based 3D interference detection and visualization functions are fully integrated across all 3D modeling disciplines. This ensures class free designs.
SmartMarine 3D extends offshore design and deliverable automation to new levels while simplifying or even eliminating redundant, time-consuming workflows and tasks – for example, drawing definition, annotation and dimensioning, and repetitive design tasks. A range of multi-disciplinary automation features are supplied as a standard feature of SmartMarine 3D, which may be extended to suit specific project or customer requirements.
SmartMarine 3D's automation environment offers organizations the opportunity to develop higher level, strategic automations addressing specific engineering needs.
Data and application integration across other engineering disciplines is a crucial aspect of SmartMarine 3D’s offshore design environment.
Integrated via SmartPlant Foundation, P&ID-driven piping design and comparison within SmartMarine 3D is now possible. Intelligent schematic data produced initially in SmartPlant P&ID can be directly used in the SmartMarine 3D piping task to ensure consistency between the schematics and physical offshore designs as well as to ensure that data duplication between tools is eliminated.
Intelligent electrical data created using SmartPlant Electrical can be used to drive intelligent, automatic cable routing in SmartMarine 3D based on intelligent electrical cable schedules. Accurate cabling data can then be passed back from SmartMarine 3D for use in SmartPlant Electrical.
For instrumentation, SmartMarine 3D integrates with inline instrument data created originally using SmartPlant Instrumentation to create inline instruments. The result is a truly integrated design and engineering environment in which data reuse and integrity is safeguarded using Intergraph’s engineering solutions.
SmartMarine 3D includes facilities for the development and application of engineering rules to support the design team. A comprehensive range of engineering rules are included with SmartMarine 3D. Additional engineering rules may also be defined to capture engineering knowledge within the organization, enabling you to balance the increasing mix of experienced and inexperienced project teams across all key disciplines while still protecting overall project integrity and design quality.
SmartMarine 3D also enables full design reuse of data across all plant disciplines during detailed 3D modeling. This has a major impact on reducing engineering labor hours and offers the potential for true modular based design through intelligent "smart" components and assemblies.
SmartMarine 3D includes a unique capability which automatically notifies designers following any design change. Designers receive notification of changes specific to their design activities via an electronic "To-Do" list which is fully managed and controlled by SmartPlant Foundation. This environment offers major advantages when tracking and managing all engineering changes during the design life cycle.
SmartMarine 3D offers a unique series of tools which fully automate the production of intelligent 3D deliverable drawings directly from the 3D model database. Users are able to generate accurate, fully dimensioned, and annotated orthographic drawings automatically.
Similarly, SmartMarine 3D includes ISOGEN, the de facto standard solution used to generate piping isometrics completely automatically, resulting in considerable reductions in the time needed to generate and update drawings to reflect the latest design status.
SmartMarine 3D’s sister product, SmartPlant Layout, offers an environment for the rapid development of alternative 3D offshore layouts and configurations for both offshore owners looking to evaluate initial capital budgets for new projects as well as shipyards looking to develop and refine an optimized offshore layout within defined requirements, engineering scope, and budgets. Automatic, rule-based pipe routing integrating with external line list data or SmartPlant P&IDs dramatically reduces the time needed to define a new offshore layout. Direct integration with leading third-party cost-estimating software further extends the benefits of Intergraph’s offshore layout solutions. This enables alternate 3D offshore layouts to be further assessed both in terms of layout optimization and overall cost to establish the most cost-efficient design.
SmartMarine 3D enables iterative design beyond current technologies or solutions, based on its intelligent 3D offshore objects forming the computer data-based offshore model. By using these “smart” objects (for example, a pipe, a control valve, or a structural steel member), Intergraph has been able to introduce innovative new technologies to extend even further the possibilities for intelligent 3D design. Such technologies include object associativity, relationships, specification-driven component placement, and parametrics.
SmartMarine Enterprise solutions are fully enabled to support global shipyard and O/O collaboration throughout the life cycle of an offshore construction using the latest worksharing technologies based on industry-standard database replication. True global worksharing using Intergraph’s offshore design solutions now means that shipyards, their sub-suppliers, and O/Os are able to design collaboratively together in a single design environment, which may extend across national or international boundaries. This maximizes the use of limited skilled engineering resources in different locations around the world to develop the new offshore design in a truly collaborative, integrated design environment.
SmartMarine 3D fully supports comprehensive data and application integration with other SmartMarine Enterprise products as well as external, third party applications. SmartMarine 3D's open system architecture uses current industry standards to support data and graphics exchanges to ensure true interoperability between engineering software tools used on today's projects.
Design visualization and design review are fully supported using Intergraph’s established SmartPlant Review visualization software. SmartPlant Review fully integrates with the SmartMarine 3D model, allowing designers to undertake comprehensive design reviews of the 3D offshore model to ensure design integrity.
Plus, add-on modules address specific engineering tasks, such as construction simulation and on-site drawing generation. SmartPlant Review also provides integration with external laser point-cloud data to facilitate in-context design visualization.
SmartPlant Review is applicable to both shipyards involved in design reviews as well as offshore owners visualizing and “walking around” their 3D offshore model.
