Internship topic
Design and set up an automated “one click” schema comparison and script generator for database synchronization and upgrade.
Task background
We have to deliver scripts which will update a database on customer site to match a development version of a database in our office. The ideal solution is to have this process automated in order to prevent mistakes, omissions and to save time necessary for manual script setup.
Major Tasks
- Collect requirements for the task from fellow colleagues.
- Find a suitable solution (existing package or application) on the Internet; this can be an advanced database script or an application. Evaluate the existing solutions with respect to cost/performance/usability of each solution.
- Pick the winning candidate solution.
- If no good candidate was found, design and write your own application
- Integrate the solution into our build and delivery process.
- Document the process.
Expected deliverables
- An application for automatic “one click” generation of a script which can be used to synchronize two databases (for upgrade from one version of database to another).
- Integration into our build process.
- Documentation.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of the English language is a must; other languages are an advantage.
- EDP Knowledge of PL/SQL; Oracle; scripting (msdos batch, optionally MSBuild) is necessary.
Starting Period
The internship can start any time throughout the year. The period has to be 4 – 6 months.
