UK PP&M Course Description

PDS 3D Equipment & Piping Design

Course Reference: TPB3011

What will the course cover?

The main capabilities of the PDS equipment modelling and piping design task are addressed including equipment modelling using three-dimensional "building blocks" and interactive piping layout, line routing and automatic component placement. The student learns how to view the model, to use other engineering models as reference data, to review piping attributes and to modify and reconstruct the piping model. The student is introduced to the interaction between the job specification and the piping software.

What are the major topics covered?

Equipment modelling:

  • Building equipment from 3D primitives
  • Building equipment from parametrics
  • Equipment modification/manipulation
  • Data review/revision
  • Nozzle manipulation

Piping design:

  • Centreline routing and creation
  • Pipe & component placement
  • Model revision and reconstruction
  • Speciality item placement
  • Pipe support placement
  • Data review/revision

Who should attend?

This course is designed for piping designers, piping engineers, system programmers, and system managers who design and layout the piping of a plant and/or are involved with the installation and maintenance of PDS software.

How long is the course?

This is a 5 day course held at Intergraph (UK) Ltd, Swindon.

What are the prerequisites for attending this course?

Previous CAD experience, preferably MicroStation, particularly an understanding of 3D space. Experience in equipment layout/piping design/draughting.
