Each pipeline in a process or power plant is detailed by at least one piping isometric drawing. These are not drawn to scale but include sufficient dimensions and a material take off list (list of materials or parts) to ensure accurate procurement, fabrication, and erection of the pipeline. A pipeline isometric can show an entire piping system with a network of connected pipelines, a single pipeline, or a single spool with prefabricated assembly. At each point where a pipeline connects to equipment or to another pipeline, this information is also shown to help in locating the pipeline in the unit where it is to be installed.
Intergraph SmartPlant® Isometrics enables the piping engineer to design and produce piping isometrics (piping isos) for individual pipelines, several pipelines designed together in one session, or complete piping systems, providing piping data input to stress analysis applications, or aiding the inspection, testing and commissioning of installed pipelines. Additionally, IDFs or PCFs from any ISOGEN®-compliant system can be merged together to produce complete piping system isometrics.
