AVL Technologies

For public safety agencies and municipalities to hone the performance of their incident response management, response resources need to be used in the most efficient manner possible. That means keeping dispatch operators up to date on the status and location of response units, so they can quickly and clearly identify the most appropriate units available for response. In emergency situations, when lives are on the line, this kind of knowledge is as important as ever.

At Intergraph, our automatic vehicle location (AVL) technologies provide the kind of real-time resource management public safety agencies need to effectively track available response units and optimize their deployment.

Locate and Respond

Public safety agencies, such as law enforcement, emergency medical services, and fire departments, respond to a variety of incidents throughout the course of day. Whether response units are out patrolling already or are waiting to respond from their department headquarters, those in charge of their deployment need the ability to quickly determine the availability and location of those units to respond in the most efficient way possible. With an Intergraph automatic vehicle location system in place, this information is readily available, optimizing your response times.

As a GPS-based system, Intergraph AVL technologies allow dispatchers to easily locate response units and determine their current status, all from an easy-to-understand map interface. With this location and status information made readily available, dispatchers can optimize resources and improve response times by sending the closest available units to an incident.

In addition to providing enhanced incident management through improved response times, AVL technologies also give dispatchers a means of monitoring the safety of response field personnel. By knowing the location of response units and their statuses, dispatchers can keep a close eye on incidents as they develop. This includes staying up to date on critical information about the incident itself and the field personnel responding to it.

Let Intergraph put our AVL technologies to work for you. Contact us today to learn more about AVL and the other incident response management solutions we provide.

AVL Technologies at Work

Intergraph helps public safety agencies and municipalities around the globe improve incident response management through industry-leading, state-of-the-art technology. Below are just a few brief examples of customers who have implemented our automatic vehicle location systems to help improve response times and overall incident management performance:

  • Toronto Police Service, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. While integrating a new mobile dispatching solution into the Toronto Police Service's existing computer aided dispatch system, Intergraph also enhanced its capabilities with an automatic vehicle location system. With the new system in place, supervisors could then monitor and track personnel in the field more efficiently through access to CAD maps integrated into response units.
  • Bouches Du Rhône Fire Brigade, France. In order to improve response times to the 120,000 incidents they respond to each year, the Bouches Du Rhône Fire Brigade implemented an Intergraph computer aided dispatch solution that included AVL technologies and mobile data terminals being equipped to a portion of its fleet. This added technology allows firefighters to update vehicle statuses while in the field, which provides dispatch operators with a clearer picture of the availability and location of response units.
  • Edmonton Transit System, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. As part of the transportation security solutions successfully deployed by the Edmonton Transit System (ETS), Intergraph also provided the ETS with an automatic vehicle location system to track resources more efficiently. Using the vehicle location and status information sent by Intergraph AVL technologies, ETS personnel can now manage and dispatch available response resources in a much more effective manner.

Improve Incident Response Times with Intergraph

One of the most important contributors to effective incident response is the time it takes for first responder units to arrive on scene. With Intergraph AVL technologies, you can efficiently track response units to determine which available units can respond the fastest, increasing overall response times when it matters most.
