Standard Database for SmartPlant® Reference Data

New database delivers wide range of unique commodity codes for project materials

With millions of individual parts to describe, each part having to be described differently for each phase of a project, the complexity in standardizing material descriptions is significant. Material codes are the obvious answer. However, a code that satisfies Engineering, while ignoring the requirements of Procurement or Construction, provides little overall benefit.

Many companies use a commodity code to uniquely describe bulk materials used on projects. However, these codes are generally company-specific. While some companies are quite advanced in this area, some are quite new to this standardization.

Companies devote significant effort to define commodity codes that satisfy requirements throughout various phases of a project. To reduce this effort, Intergraph has built a Standard Database for SmartPlant Reference Data that delivers a comprehensive range of commodity codes that can be used to uniquely describe materials throughout a project life cycle. Within SmartPlant Reference Data, the Standard Database employs sophisticated and exhaustive rules to maintain material descriptions.

Standard Database for SmartPlant Reference Data is a pre-configured, recommended best practice solution to enable rapid implementation of enterprise reference data management and/or materials management in general. The Standard Database incorporates a comprehensive catalog of industry-standard material parts, organized and described for "out of the box" usage by owner/operators, engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction. The content is pre-configured to enable catalog and piping specification interfaces to intelligent 3D applications (initially SmartPlant 3D).

  • Depending on the scope of the implementation, clients can typically save between three to 12 months on the initial implementation, and corresponding consulting and training fees
  • Training is minimized, reducing implementation time and cost
  • High-quality production startup is ensured by eliminating the need for clients to re-enter the same standard reference data

The initial release of the Standard Database is delivered with a pre-configured interface to SmartPlant 3D, Intergraph’s next generation 3D plant design software.

Available content

The initial release of Standard Database for SmartPlant Reference Data is delivered configured to support 90 piping component definitions according to US standards (ASME/ANSI, ASTM, and API).

The content of these 90 piping components includes more than 10,000 Commodity Codes and more than one million individual parts with full dimensional data, including weights.
